DOMO COLLECTION
‘Inspired by my Polish heritage I began to explore Slavic mythology with an emphasis on Polish folklore. I was intrigued by how myths created rituals in the home, and deeply connected people to the seasons, their view of the cycle of life, and nature itself. The Domovoy in particular was compelling because of its sometimes mischievous and playful persona, which ultimately sought peace and order for the home and its family’. - Jan Waterson
Domovoy can be roughly translated to ‘household lord’, and is a spirit God that inhibits the home and cares for its family. In attempts to appease the Domovoy, it was tradition for family members to leave an offering of food to show caring behaviours. Domo takes this ritual of offering and family care and places it at the centre of the collection. Each piece has a bowl providing an integral space for sharing, placing nurture and order at the centre of the furniture’s function.
In a unique process only achievable by hand, a bowl is carefully turned into the end grain structure of the legs joint. By Integrating the functional bowl with the tables traditional joinery, the annual growth rings of the timber are celebrated, allowing the importance of the bowl to clearly be observed.
Each open edition is made to order and available through the studio store.
